Police have arrested two individuals who assaulted and injured two police officers attempting to control a clash that occurred during a musical evening in the Bulathsinhala area. Police confirm that these suspects are residents of Bulathsinhala, Gawirigiriya, and Niggaha areas.
The two assaulted police officers have currently been hospitalized for treatment.This musical concert was organized by an alumni association of a school in the Bulathsinhala area and was held on the night of the 7th at a Bulathsinhala playground. The clash erupted around 1:00 AM when a dispute among a group of intoxicated individuals present there, concerning a young woman, escalated. Police officers assigned for security at the concert venue immediately intervened to control the situation and took steps to remove those involved in the conflict from the playground.
However, the groups who had left the playground engaged in another brawl outside, and two police officers on duty outside again intervened to de-escalate the situation. The enraged crowd severely assaulted the two police officers, and one officer's uniform was torn. The two officers, injured in the assault, were transferred to Bulathsinhala Hospital for initial treatment and later to Horana Base Hospital for further treatment.
During the inspection of the clash site, a steel wire, approximately four feet long with an iron piece attached, was taken into police custody. Police state that several more suspects involved in this incident are expected to be arrested soon. Further investigations into the incident are being conducted under the direct supervision of Bulathsinhala Police Station OIC, Mr. I. S. N. Kasthuriarachchi.
