A student from a private university in Colombo, who attempted to enter the University of Moratuwa using a fake identity card with the intention of meeting his girlfriend studying at the Faculty of Engineering of the same university, has been arrested by the Moratuwa Headquarters Police.




The arrested individual is a 25-year-old man residing in the Matara area. He attempted to enter through the main gate of the University of Moratuwa claiming to be a student there, at which point security officers requested and inspected his identity card.

At that moment, the security officers realized that the identity card he presented was fake. Accordingly, they took steps to inform the university's disciplinary lecturer about the matter, and subsequently, the student was handed over to the Moratuwa Headquarters Police.




During the investigations conducted by the police, it was confirmed that the identity card in question was forged. During police questioning, the suspect student stated that he is studying at a private university and had prepared this fake identity card to meet his girlfriend, who is a first-year student at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Moratuwa.

The student has been arrested on charges of impersonation and unlawful entry, and the fake identity card he used has also been taken into police custody. The police have made arrangements to conduct further investigations regarding the suspect and present him before the court.



Further investigations into this matter are being carried out under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General of Police Samantha Wijesekera, in charge of the Western South Division, under the instructions of Senior Superintendent of Police Ashoka Gunasekara, in charge of the Mount Lavinia Division, and led by Chief Inspector Nihal Francis, the Officer-in-Charge of the Moratuwa Headquarters Police Station.
