A French young woman diving near Pigeon Island was molested

A young man accused of molesting a French tourist woman in the coastal area near Pigeon Island, Trincomalee, has been arrested by the Kuchchaveli Tourist Police. The arrest was made on the 26th of last month, and the police confirm that the suspect is a resident of Gopalapuram, Kuchchaveli.

This foreign woman had come to Sri Lanka for a tour and was staying at a hotel in the Alaswatta area of Trincomalee. During that time, when she went to the beach, she met this suspect young man, and later some familiarity developed between them.

Subsequently, both of them went to Pigeon Island by boat, and it is reported that the molestation occurred while they were swimming in the sea wearing diving equipment. The French national woman complained to the police lifeguards on duty at Pigeon Island that the young man had harassed her underwater.

Acting immediately on the woman's complaint, the lifeguards apprehended the suspect and handed him over to Inspector Amarakoon, the OIC of the Kuchchaveli Tourist Police, for further investigations. Subsequently, the police arrested him.
