Due to the regional crises and unrest currently prevailing in Pakistan, the participation of Bangladeshi players in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) cricket tournament has been cast into severe uncertainty. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had previously issued No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for six players – Mustafizur Rahman, Parvez Hossain Emon, Shoriful Islam, Nahid Rana, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, and Rishad Hossain – who were selected by teams in the player auction, to join the tournament.
However, considering the current situation, Bangladeshi cricket authorities have now decided to obtain government approval before allowing the respective players to depart for Pakistan.Nazmul Abedin, Chairman of Cricket Operations for the Bangladesh Cricket Board, addressing the media, stated that under normal circumstances, players do not require special government permission to participate in foreign tournaments. However, he declared that discussions with the government are mandatory due to the abnormal situation in Pakistan and the existing risks concerning player safety. Accordingly, the board is working to inquire with the government whether traveling to Pakistan is safe, and the final decision regarding the players' participation in the tournament will be entirely based on government advice.
If these players travel to Pakistan with government approval, they will miss the pre-training camp for the upcoming series against New Zealand. This cricket series, comprising three One-Day Internationals and three Twenty20 matches between Bangladesh and New Zealand, is scheduled to commence in the last week of March.
With the aim of allowing these players to participate in the New Zealand series, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has currently issued No Objection Certificates valid only for limited durations. Accordingly, Mustafizur Rahman has been granted permission for the periods from March 26 to April 12 and again from April 24 to May 3, while players Tanzid, Shoriful, Rana, and Rishad have received permission for the PSL tournament only until April 12. Furthermore, it is reported that Parvez Hossain, who has permission until April 21, will only be able to participate in the Twenty20 matches during the New Zealand series.
