Mount Lavinia Headquarters Police have launched a wide-ranging investigation to arrest a student from the Ratmalana Vocational Technology University who assaulted and injured two other students from the same university with a sharp weapon. One of the students injured in the stabbing received treatment at Kotelawala Hospital and then officially lodged a complaint with the Mount Lavinia Police Crime Investigation Division on the 16th.

The other student injured in the attack is currently admitted to the Colombo National Hospital and is receiving further treatment.




According to police investigations, the altercation occurred on the night of the 15th. On that day, a volleyball match was held between the university students and staff, followed by a musical concert in the evening. Around midnight, during the concert, an argument broke out among the students over some issue. Police state that after the dispute escalated, the suspect student stabbed and injured the other two students and then fled the scene.

Information has now been revealed that the suspect student, who committed the crime and fled the area, is a resident of Beliatta, Tangalle. Under the instructions of Deputy Inspector General of Police Samantha Wijesekera, in charge of the Western South Division, and under the guidance of Senior Superintendent of Police Ashoka Gunasekara, in charge of the Mount Lavinia Division, a team of officers from the Crime Investigation Division of Mount Lavinia Headquarters Police are conducting further investigations to apprehend the escaped suspect.
