A recent incident was reported where a girl was cruelly tortured and killed by her mother and her informal husband, who were enraged because the girl did not address the informal husband as 'father'. Due to this incident, a two-year and four-month-old girl in the Magammana area of Homagama had been subjected to torture and tragically died.

The cause of death of this infant, named Parindi Dilanya, who resided at No. 125/4, Samagi Mawatha, has been confirmed by the post-mortem examination as severe brain damage due to her head forcefully hitting a blunt surface during the assault. The relevant post-mortem examination was conducted on the 15th by Specialist Judicial Medical Officer Mr. Panitha Seneviratne at Homagama Base Hospital.

According to police investigations, it has been revealed that the deceased girl lived in the said house with her mother and elder brother. The children's father had abandoned the family when they were young, and thereafter, the mother had formed a close relationship with another person. It has been revealed that over the past four months, the said person frequently visited the house, and believing that the children would hinder their relationship, both the mother and the said person jointly harassed the children by constantly scolding and inhumanely assaulting them.

Regarding the incident, Homagama Acting Magistrate Mr. Padmasiri Jayawardena visited the Homagama Base Hospital and, after examining the body, ordered the police to conduct a post-mortem examination by a specialist judicial medical officer. Accordingly, after the necessary procedures, instructions were given to hand over the deceased girl's body to her mother's younger sister for burial. Currently, the main suspect involved in this crime has fled the area, and the police have launched extensive investigations to apprehend him. Furthermore, the girl's mother, who is connected to the incident, was scheduled to be produced before the Kesbewa Magistrate's Court on the 16th.
