Mr. Mohan Peiris, who is both a former Chief Justice and a former Attorney General, was questioned for about two and a half hours yesterday (16) by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), and a statement was recorded. According to a prior notice given by the Commission, he appeared before the said Commission yesterday around 9:00 AM with a group of lawyers.
This questioning was conducted based on an investigation into an incident where letters were issued recommending the illegal allocation of several houses in a housing complex to several individuals. After providing extensive details regarding the incident, sources confirm that Mr. Mohan Peiris left the Bribery Commission.
Meanwhile, former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had also been previously informed to appear before the Bribery Commission on the 13th to provide a statement regarding this very incident of housing allocation. However, as he was scheduled to undertake a pre-planned trip to Singapore, the former President had written to the Commission on the 13th requesting another date for his appearance. Accordingly, the Commission is expected to provide another date in the future to record a statement from Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa regarding this investigation.
