Protests in Jaffna against Gotabaya

A special protest was organized today in the Jaffna city center, demanding the immediate repeal of the Prevention of Terrorism Act and the withdrawal of the new draft bill intended to replace it.

Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's refusal to appear before the court to give evidence regarding the disappearance of activists Lalith and Kugan, citing security reasons, and his evasion of court attendance, were severely criticized and condemned at this protest.

Protesters emphasized that the government should intervene and take immediate steps to ensure justice and fairness, and it was noteworthy that the Jaffna-based Social Rights Movement, as well as Sinhala civil activists from the South, joined the event to express their support for the protesters.
