Police help for O/L student, hospitalized after father's assault, to attend exam

The O/L student who was hospitalized after being brutally assaulted by her father was given the opportunity to sit for today's (23rd) Mathematics paper by the Officer-in-Charge of Aluthgama Police.

This student, a resident of Dharga Town, who is currently sitting for this year's examination, went to a neighbor's friend's house last Saturday after the exam, accompanied by her younger sister, who is studying in grade ten. Due to their delay in returning home from this visit, their father, who had already returned home, became extremely angry and brutally assaulted both daughters.

Unable to tolerate their father's actions any further, the two students went to the Aluthgama Police and lodged a complaint. The Police Children and Women's Bureau, upon receiving the complaints, took steps to admit the two victimized girls to Aluthgama Hospital for treatment. Subsequently, they were transferred to Kalutara Nagoda Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

While hospitalized, after the elder student revealed all the information to Aluthgama Police OIC Sampath Sanjeewa, he took steps to provide her with the necessary facilities to sit for the examination. Accordingly, this morning, she was taken to the examination center with the protection of a police jeep and two female police officers, along with necessary items such as pens, pencils, and food and drink, under special permission from Kalutara Nagoda Hospital.

The OIC stated that after the examination concluded around 4:10 PM, the student was readmitted to Nagoda Teaching Hospital under female police protection.

It is reported that these two girls faced such an unfortunate fate while growing up under their father's care, having lost their mother's love and protection. The police have launched a wide-ranging investigation to apprehend the suspect father, who assaulted the girls and has since fled the area and is in hiding.
