According to the latest weather report issued by the Department of Meteorology for the 24-hour period ending at 08:30 AM on February 15, 2026, the highest rainfall in the island has been recorded from the Inginiyagala area in Ampara District. The rainfall value is recorded as 112.0 millimeters.
Additionally, considering other rainfall stations, high rainfall of 101.3 mm was received in the Deegawapi area and 100.3 mm in the Ampara area. Significant rainfall of 94.0 mm, 90.5 mm, and 85.0 mm has been recorded from the areas of Ekgal Oya, Damana, and Panama Wewa, respectively.Observing data from major meteorological stations, Galle area received 35.4 mm of rainfall, while Nuwara Eliya recorded 20.7 mm and Pottuvil area recorded 18.9 mm. Focusing on temperature data, the highest temperature in the island is reported from Katunayake area, which is 33.1 degrees Celsius. High maximum temperature values are also shown as 32.6 degrees Celsius in Ratmalana, 32.5 degrees Celsius in Ratnapura, and 32.0 degrees Celsius in Colombo. The lowest temperature, as usual, is reported from Nuwara Eliya, with a minimum temperature of 13.4 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature of 17.0 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperatures in Bandarawela and Badulla areas were recorded as 16.5 degrees Celsius and 18.9 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The rainfall situation in the catchment areas associated with hydropower plants is also included in this report. Accordingly, Rantambe area received a maximum rainfall of 55.2 mm, and Randenigala area received 43.2 mm of rainfall. Rainfall of 27.2 mm, 19.2 mm, and 17.6 mm has also been recorded from the areas around Victoria, Bowatenna, and Ukuwela reservoirs, respectively. Other major reservoirs such as Maussakelle, Castlereagh, and Laxapana areas received minor rainfall of less than 10 mm.
