After a new Prime Minister was elected by public vote in Bangladesh, a problem has arisen regarding the assets of Muhammad Yunus, who has overseen the country since the struggle, and an investigation has been launched into it. A significant increase in the assets of ministers in Muhammad Yunus's interim government, formed after the overthrow of Sheikh Hasina's government in Bangladesh, has been observed, and it is reported that the new Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is likely to appoint a special committee to investigate this.
The assets of government head Muhammad Yunus have increased by approximately 11% or 1.3 crore rupees within a year, and his total assets have now grown to 12.5 crore Indian rupees. Among the four prominent ministers of the interim government, Yunus has reported the highest asset growth, while Housing Minister Adilur Rahman, who is in second place, has also seen his assets increase by 1.23 crore rupees. Overall, it has been confirmed that the assets of 18 out of 21 ministers in the Yunus government have increased in this manner.Amidst this situation, information has been revealed that Yunus is once again preparing to move to Paris, France. Yunus, a pioneer in Bangladesh's microfinance sector and the country's only Nobel laureate, faced numerous corruption charges during Hasina's rule, but all those cases were withdrawn after he was sworn in as the interim government's Prime Minister in August 2024. Meanwhile, with Tarique Rahman's election victory, Faiz Ahmed Tayyab, who served as the Information Technology Minister in the Yunus government, has departed for the Netherlands again. Faiz was heavily accused of making decisions favorable to foreign companies and awarding tenders for the purchase of unnecessarily high-capacity equipment during his tenure. However, Environment Minister Syeda Rizwana stated that Faiz, who lives in the Netherlands with his family, only came to Bangladesh to join the Yunus government.
BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is scheduled to be sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Bangladesh tomorrow, February 17th. The swearing-in ceremony, traditionally held at the Presidential Palace, will this time be held at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Complex in Dhaka. Although many leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, were invited, the Indian Prime Minister will not attend due to a bilateral discussion with French President Emmanuel Macron in Mumbai on February 17th. Instead, Indian Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri are expected to attend the event. Addressing the media for the first time after his election victory, Tarique Rahman stated that Bangladesh's needs will always be prioritized, and China will be considered a development partner for the country, with continued cooperation in the future. He also emphasized that the repatriation of Sheikh Hasina from India would depend entirely on a legal process.
Tarique Rahman, son of former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, joined the BNP party in 1988 and became a prominent figure through organizational activities in the 2001 elections. However, after 2006, he faced corruption charges and was arrested in 2007. Subsequently, he went to London for medical treatment in 2008 and remained abroad for nearly 17 years. During that period, Tarique, who became the party's Senior Vice Chairman and later Acting Chairman, faced several lawsuits, but was later acquitted by the court. He returned to Bangladesh last year, took over the party leadership after his mother's demise, and with the BNP party's excellent victory in the recent elections, became the main candidate for the Prime Minister's post in Bangladesh.
