Hemal Ranasinghe arrested

Popular actor Hemal Ranasinghe has been arrested by the Wellawatte Police. Police sources confirm that he was arrested for an investigation related to an accusation of assaulting a person.

The incident was reported on January 8th at the Havelock City shopping complex, and it is alleged that the assault was carried out targeting a social media activist. The police had previously informed the actor on several occasions to appear before them to give a statement regarding this incident.

However, it is reported that he delayed appearing before the police, avoiding those notifications. Later today (03), after he arrived at the Wellawatte Police Station and surrendered, the police arrested him after recording statements related to the incident.

When inquired about this arrest, the Police Media Division also confirmed the facts. Information has been reported that the assaulted party is either a journalist or a social media activist, and further investigations into the incident are underway, with the police stating that Hemal Ranasinghe will be produced before the Mount Lavinia court.
