Following attacks launched by Israel against Iran on February 28, 2026, with American intervention, Iran, Israel, and Iraq have taken steps to temporarily close their airspace for civil flights to ensure passenger safety. This decision has led to flight cancellations, diversions of aircraft to other airports, and the introduction of new routes, causing severe difficulties for air passengers worldwide.

Specifically, air operations centered around cities like Tel Aviv in Israel and Tehran in Iran have almost completely halted, and aircraft traveling on East-West routes between Europe and Asia via major Gulf regional airports such as Dubai, Doha, and Abu Dhabi have been forced to use longer routes, resulting in significant time delays.

In response to this crisis, Lufthansa and its subsidiaries Austrian and Swiss Airlines have suspended all flights to several destinations, including Tel Aviv and Beirut, until March 7. Additionally, Wizz Air has also halted all flight operations to Israel, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Amman until March 7. American airlines United Airlines and Delta Air Lines have diverted flights from the US to Tel Aviv to other cities like Athens, while Air France, KLM, and Aegean Airlines have completely suspended operations to Tel Aviv. Following instructions from the Russian Ministry of Transport, Russian airlines have also temporarily suspended flights to Iran and Israel.

Many regional and Asian airlines have also responded swiftly to this situation. Air India has diverted a flight from New Delhi to Tel Aviv back to Mumbai and has taken steps to suspend Israeli flights for a week starting March 1, and to change the route for aircraft arriving in India from North America to refuel in Europe. IndiGo is also closely monitoring the situation, issuing announcements regarding schedule changes and cancellations affecting numerous international flights. Qatar Airways has canceled most flights to Tehran until June 30, 2026, and

only one flight per day operates in both directions. flydubai has completely suspended flights to Israel and Iranian cities, including Tehran, and has altered other routes. AJet, a Turkish budget airline, has suspended operations to Iran, Iraq, and Jordan until Monday, and in some cases, limited them only to Lebanon. According to the Kuwait Civil Aviation Authority, Kuwait Airways has also suspended all flights to Iran until further notice. Due to the closure of Israeli airspace, domestic airlines such as Arkia and Air Haifa have also been forced to completely suspend their operations.

Other airlines such as Emirates, Air France-KLM Group, and Malaysia Airlines are already recalling their aircraft or rerouting to avoid these risky areas, and further changes may occur if the situation escalates. As this unstable situation is evolving rapidly, airlines may make new decisions based on authorities' advice. Passengers planning to travel through or to these countries will face a high risk of flight delays and cancellations. Therefore, it is essential for passengers to check the latest information about their flights via flight tracking apps like Flightradar24 or the official websites or apps of the respective airlines before heading to the airport.
