The Middle East region is engulfed in intense war tensions following joint military attacks by the United States and Israel on several major cities in Iran, including the capital Tehran. In response, Iran has launched nearly 400 missiles targeting Israel as well as American military bases located in Dubai, Qatar, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This joint American-Israeli operation, operating under the code names 'Epic Fury' and 'Magen Yehuda', has severely targeted Iran's Ministry of Intelligence, Ministry of Defense, Atomic Energy Organization, and the office of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. While reports indicate that the Supreme Leader and President Masoud Pezeshkian have been moved to safe locations following the attack, several senior commanders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps are said to have been killed.
US President Donald Trump has stated that the main objective of this military intervention is to completely destroy Iran's ballistic missile program and ensure the safety of American citizens. Prior to the attack, the US had already reinforced its military presence in the Middle East, deploying the 'USS Gerald R. Ford' nuclear aircraft carrier and over 50 advanced fighter jets of F-22 and F-35 types to the region. Currently, between 30,000 and 40,000 American troops are stationed in the Middle East.
Iran launched a massive counter-attack against Israeli assaults, unleashing a barrage of ballistic missiles on American military bases in the region. Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, Al Dhafra Air Base in the UAE, and the Fifth Fleet Naval Base in Bahrain were targeted in these attacks. Additionally, explosions have been reported in Dubai and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and one civilian was killed in a missile attack on Abu Dhabi. Meanwhile, Iranian state media reports that five schoolgirls were killed in an Israeli attack on a school in Minab, Iran.
Due to the escalating war situation, air travel in the Middle East has been almost entirely disrupted, with several countries including Israel and Iraq closing their airspace. Many major airlines, including Air India, British Airways, and Lufthansa, have canceled flights to the Middle East. Meanwhile, internet connectivity in Iran has been severely curtailed, with internet monitoring organizations indicating that only about 4% of the total internet connection is operational.
In light of this crisis, the international community, including India and the European Union, remains highly concerned, and embassies of various countries have advised their citizens residing in Israel and Iran to stay in safe locations. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and American authorities are urging the Iranian people to take the lead in overthrowing the current Islamic regime and establishing a free Iran.
