A secret plan launched with the aim of fulfilling the political needs of the Rajapaksa family, under the guise of a Buddhist council, to bring a nominal presidential candidate to the forefront by bringing him to Colombo, has now completely failed. Political sources confirm that although a group of monks led by Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero were preparing to organize this program, the attempt failed due to strong opposition from another group of monks.

These incidents clearly demonstrate that although protest slogans are created based solely on popular sentiment in the current political climate, the opposition lacks the unity or political strength required to implement them practically. Previously, despite extensive media publicity about bringing a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, the opposition eventually had to abandon that plan midway.

Meanwhile, it is also reported that a serious conflict has arisen between the political operations currently being carried out by Mr. Namal Rajapaksa and his close associates within the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, and the aforementioned monastic program. Amidst this political crisis, it is further revealed that Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa suddenly met and discussed with Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero a few days ago to inquire about this proposed nominal presidential candidate.

However, recent survey reports have confirmed that during the period leading up to the next presidential election, scheduled for 2029, the public appeal of the current National People's Power government is growing day by day. Therefore, understanding that attempting to suddenly introduce a nominal candidate to society would be merely a failed propaganda tactic, the relevant political groups have decided to completely withdraw that operation.
