A group of lawyers, led by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, engaged in a protest march today (16) expressing strong disapproval over the shooting and killing of lawyer Buddhika Mallawaarachchi and his wife. This protest marched from the Supreme Court complex to the main office of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka.
To express their protest against this murder, all lawyers across the island took steps to refrain from court proceedings today.
Due to this, the public who came to the courts for legal proceedings faced severe inconvenience, and in symbolic protest by the lawyers, black flags were displayed in many court premises across the island.
Four suspects connected to this crime, committed by a group of unknown gunmen, have already been identified by the police, and further investigations related to it are continuously underway. The bodies of the murdered couple have been placed at their home in Pitigala, and their final rites are scheduled to be held today.
