A military officer has died in a shooting incident that occurred inside a Sri Lanka Army camp located in the Dombagoda area, which falls under the Anguruwatota Police Division. Anguruwatota Police confirm that the deceased is a 35-year-old officer from Ampara, who was attached to the Dombagoda Army Ordnance Corps.
Initial investigations have revealed that this unfortunate incident occurred yesterday (09) around 10:35 AM. However, the police state that official information regarding this shooting was reported to the Anguruwatota Police Station only around 1:20 PM on the same day.
It is reported that the shooting occurred when several officers entered the common room to hand over their firearms after completing their duties. While several firearms belonging to the officers were gathered and placed in the room, it has been revealed that the death occurred when a firearm belonging to another officer, which was in the hand of the deceased officer, discharged. Further investigations conducted by the police into the incident have revealed that the shooting was triggered by a family dispute.
