Update: Death in Angulana elevator cabin - Fled killer boyfriend arrested

Agulana police have arrested a person, said to be the boyfriend of a twenty-four-year-old woman with whom he had a romantic relationship, on the charge of beating her to death with a broom and by hand and foot. The woman killed in this manner has been identified as Heshala Kavindi Silva, a resident of Kuda Waskaduwa, Wadduwa.

 The suspect, who had fled and gone into hiding after the crime, was arrested two days later, after surrendering to the police yesterday evening (28). Police further state that this murder took place inside the elevator control room on the top floor of the eight-story Sayurupura housing complex in Agulana.

Initial police investigations have revealed that the suspect is a father of one child and lives separately from his wife. He had been having an illicit relationship with the deceased young woman for about eight months, and being severely addicted to drugs, he had obtained money from the young woman and also enticed her into the same activity. Police sources state that due to this, the young woman's parents had even refused to take her back home.

Police investigations have further revealed that the suspect's brother lives in a house within the Agulana Sayura apartment complex itself, and his mother lives in another house nearby. Police also state that food and drink were even provided to the young woman from the mother's or brother's house. On the day of the incident, last 26th in the evening, the two of them were staying at the top of the highest floor in 'G' section of the eight-story Sayura apartment complex. There, an argument between the two escalated inside the elevator control room, and the suspect assaulted the young woman with a broom and by hand and foot, then fled.

The next day after the incident, in the afternoon, based on information received that a young woman had fallen on a concrete slab, police officers immediately went to the scene and commenced investigations. After it was revealed that she had died, arrangements were made to conduct a magisterial inquiry.

Police state that numerous bruises were observed all over the deceased young woman's body, and her body had turned blue. The body is currently deposited at Kalubowila Teaching Hospital, and the arrested twenty-six-year-old suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Moratuwa Magistrate's Court.
