An 18-year-old Sri Lankan student killed a 21-year-old student in Japan after being shamed by being called a homosexual.

An 18-year-old Sri Lankan student has been arrested by police in Japan in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 21-year-old Sri Lankan student at a shared house in Nagareyama City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. The incident occurred around 10:20 AM on Tuesday, August 11, at a house in the Higashi-Hatsushi 3-chome area, and the young man, who sustained a sharp knife wound to his abdomen, died after being hospitalized.

The unfortunate young man who died was a 21-year-old Sri Lankan named Jayakody Arachchilage Praveen Isuru, who was studying in Japan. The 18-year-old Sri Lankan student arrested in connection with the incident was also residing in the same house. After the attack, the suspect himself notified emergency services via 119, and upon the arrival of Nagareyama police officers, he admitted to the stabbing and was arrested on the spot. With the death of the young man, who was hospitalized in critical condition, police have taken steps to proceed with investigations under homicide charges.

During police questioning, the 18-year-old suspect stated that he carried out the attack out of anger because the deceased young man had insulted him by calling him homosexual, verbally abused his mother, and physically assaulted him. Media reports indicate that this prior dispute might have occurred at a workplace, and Chiba Prefectural Police are conducting further investigations into the relationship between the two, their previous disagreements, and the true circumstances that led to the incident.

It is common practice for foreign students studying in Japan to live in shared accommodation, and this incident involving two Sri Lankans residing together has been reported by Japanese media, including NHK and Sankei News, as well as international media.
