Horana Chief Magistrate Chandana Kalansooriya recently ordered four youths, arrested on suspicion of videoing and organizing a motorcycle race that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old school student after being hit by a car in the Horana area, to be remanded until February 2nd.
The four youths remanded are between 20 and 21 years of age. They are Maddumage Gayashan Madushanka and Umesh Madawa, residents of Rathmalgoda, Horana; Bamunuge Yasindu Dewmith, a resident of Batagoda, Galpatha; and Yasidu Shantha Bandara, a resident of Karadana.
Following a lengthy investigation conducted by officers including the OIC of the Traffic Division of Horana Headquarters Police, it was revealed in court that these four suspects had videoed and organized this motorcycle race in the Ilimba area of Horana. A 17-year-old student died in this accident, and a 21-year-old youth was injured.
It was reported to the court that 17-year-old student Sasindu Dewmith Prasanna died in this motorcycle race, and the 21-year-old youth who sustained serious injuries is currently hospitalized and receiving treatment. Meanwhile, several youths who organized and participated in this race have already been taken into police custody. Furthermore, Horana Headquarters Police are conducting operations to arrest youths who rode motorcycles on one wheel and without helmets during the deceased student's funeral procession.
