Three individuals working on a cabana project under construction in the Pelessa area, which belongs to the Galle Ahangama Police Division, have tragically lost their lives due to a collapse of an earth embankment. The accident occurred tonight (22), and a group of workers who were preparing a drain at the site faced this unfortunate incident.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that earth had been excavated and removed with the aid of a backhoe machine for this construction taking place on a private land, and while a drain was being dug near the edge of that earth embankment, the embankment suddenly collapsed, burying the workers. Although steps were taken to urgently admit the three critically injured workers, who were buried under the earth embankment, to the Gonagahahena Hospital, hospital sources state that they had already passed away by then.
The police have identified the three individuals who died in this accident as residents of Matara, Medirigiriya, and Padiyathalawa areas. The accident occurred in the Pelessa Yatigaha Kale area, and the bodies have currently been deposited at the Ahangama Hospital. It is reported that the Ahangama Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
