The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards, which have garnered the highest attention from cinema enthusiasts worldwide, were officially announced on January 22nd in Hollywood. This vampire-themed film, starring Michael B. Jordan in a dual role, has set a new record by receiving 16 nominations, the highest number of nominations ever received by a single film in Oscar history. Previously, this record was jointly held by the trio of films 'All About Eve' (1950), 'Titanic' (1997), and 'La La Land' (2016), each with 14 nominations. Paul Thomas Anderson's 'One Battle After Another' secured second place with 13 nominations, while 'Marty Supreme', 'Frankenstein', and 'Sentimental Value' each received 9 nominations, and 'Hamnet' managed to get 8 nominations.
This year, there is fierce competition for Best Picture, with ten films nominated: 'Bugonia', Brad Pitt's 'F1', 'Frankenstein', 'Hamnet', 'Marty Supreme', 'One Battle After Another', 'The Secret Agent', 'Sentimental Value', 'Sinners', and 'Train Dreams'. For Best Director, the five filmmakers Paul Thomas Anderson, Ryan Coogler, Josh Safdie, Joachim Trier, and Chloé Zhao are among the nominees.
Focusing on the acting categories, for Best Actor, the nominees are Timothée Chalamet ('Marty Supreme'), Leonardo DiCaprio ('One Battle After Another'), Ethan Hawke ('Blue Moon'), Michael B. Jordan ('Sinners'), and Wagner Moura ('The Secret Agent'). For Best Actress, the nominees include Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I'd Kick You), Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue), Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value), and Emma Stone (Bugonia). Additionally, the Academy has announced nominations for Best Supporting Actor: Benicio Del Toro, Jacob Elordi, Delroy Lindo, Sean Penn, and Stellan Skarsgård; and for Best Supporting Actress: Elle Fanning, Inga Ibsdotter Liliaas, Amy Madigan, Wunmi Mosaku, and Teyana Taylor.
The dominance of leading films is also evident in the technical and other categories, with works like 'It Was Just an Accident', 'Sirat', and 'The Voice of Hind Rajab' nominated for Best International Feature Film. Five films, including 'Zootopia 2', are competing for Best Animated Feature Film. These major films have also been nominated for numerous categories such as Best Original Screenplay, Best Adapted Screenplay, Editing, Cinematography, Visual Effects, and Best Original Song, and the winners of the highest honor in the film world will be revealed to the world next March.
