The government has made arrangements to hold a special exhibition for the public to worship the Sacred Relics of the Buddha, which are being brought from the state of Gujarat, India, under the full patronage of the Indian government. These Relics are scheduled to be brought to the island on February 04, coinciding with this year's National Independence Day celebrations. The exhibition of these Relics will be held for a week, from that day until February 11, at the Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple in Colombo.
This valuable opportunity has arisen for the people of this country as a result of discussions held recently between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.The Sacred Relics are scheduled to arrive at Katunayake International Airport at 11:00 AM on the 4th of next month, and the opportunity for the general public to worship the Relics will open from 3:00 PM on the same day. With the aim of systematically organizing this meritorious act with state patronage, the Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, visited the Gangaramaya Temple in Colombo yesterday (18) afternoon and conducted initial observations. There, the Minister met with the Chief Incumbent of Gangaramaya Temple, Dr. Venerable Kirinde Assaji Nayaka Thero, and discussed planning future activities according to his advice.
Special attention was paid to how the infrastructure and basic necessities should be organized for the large number of devotees expected to attend this Relic veneration. Government Information Director Harsha Bandara also participated in this observation tour and discussion. Previously, on the 17th, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa and Deputy Minister of Health Hansaka Wijemuni had met with the Mahanayaka Theros of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters to inform them about this Relic exhibition.
