Three people have died in a series of shootings in Lake Cargelligo, a small town in central-western Australia, and a large-scale police operation is currently underway to apprehend the suspect. Emergency services immediately arrived at the scene last Thursday around 4:20 PM, following reports of a shooting inside a vehicle in the area.
There, they were able to find a woman and a man who had died from gunshot wounds.Following further information received by the police after the first incident, another woman and a man with gunshot wounds were found during a search of a location on Walker Street. Overall, police have officially confirmed that three people, including two women and one man, have died in these shootings. Another man injured in the incident has been hospitalized, and his condition is reported to be serious but stable. All deceased individuals have been identified as residents of the Lake Cargelligo area.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that this is suspected to be an incident related to domestic violence. Operations have been launched to find the suspects involved in the incident, with heavily armed tactical police teams deployed for this purpose.
A special police zone has been established covering the crime scenes, and investigations have commenced. Commenting on the matter, Commissioner Andrew Holland stated that the shooter has been identified but is still at large. Police further added that all resources have been deployed to apprehend the suspect, and a massive search operation is underway throughout the town. To ensure public safety, police have informed residents via a geo-targeted SMS service to stay indoors or evacuate the affected area.
The Assistant Commissioner described the scene faced by emergency services as horrific. He also emphasized that such a tragic incident in a small town would have a severe impact on the community. Barwon Member of Parliament, Mr. Roy Butler, also called it "very sad news," and while he could not provide further details due to the uncertain situation, he extended his condolences to the affected families.
