Ranwala's wife, Dr. Indrani, hit guitarist Dhanushka, who was remanded after it was revealed that he was driving under the influence.

Mahara Acting Magistrate Mr. Saman Vithanarachchi ordered the remand of a lead guitarist of a famous music band until the 20th of this month, on the charge of causing an accident by colliding with the car in which the wife of former Speaker and Member of Parliament Mr. Asoka Sapumal Ranwala was traveling.

This accident occurred on the morning of the 17th near her residence in the Biyagama area. Mrs. Indrani Ranwala, who works as a specialist doctor at Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children in Colombo, was attempting to enter her car onto the Kelaniya-Biyagama main road from her home to report for duty when a car speeding from the direction of Kelaniya collided with her vehicle.

Police have revealed that the car that caused the accident was driven by Dhanushka Pradeep Joseph (37), a resident of Jawatta, Kalutara North, who is a lead guitarist of a famous music band. Preliminary investigations have revealed that he caused this accident while returning from a music concert at a leading hotel in Colombo and on his way to drop off a friend.

To check if the suspect driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, the breathalyzer test (Balloon test) conducted by the police and medical examinations conducted by a doctor at Biyagama Hospital confirmed that he had consumed a large amount of alcohol. The specialist doctor injured in the accident has been admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo for treatment.

Under the instructions of Deputy Inspector General of Police (North Western Province) Attorney-at-Law Kalinga Jayathissa and Senior Superintendent of Police (Kelaniya Division) Nuwan Asanka, Biyagama Police Station OIC Chief Inspector Ajith Wijesinghe and officers of the traffic division conducted further investigations into the incident and produced the suspect before the court. It is also reported that on a previous occasion, a car driven by Mr. Asoka Ranwala also collided with another vehicle, injuring a group of people including a small child.
