Parents of students entering Grade Six in 2026 engaged in a silent protest in front of the Isurupaya Ministry of Education, urging for the immediate implementation of the proposed new education module for their children's education. The parents emphasized the necessity of implementing educational reforms suitable for the modern world, replacing the traditional education system, which is about sixteen years old. They also took steps to sign a petition, highlighting the need to implement the new module.
A delegation of parent representatives also entered the Ministry of Education to discuss this request.Parents representing various professions, including doctors, lawyers, teachers, and principals, participated in this protest, stating that this was an opportunity to stand up for their children's future, not a political matter. They pointed out that the government has been training teachers since last August and has informed parents about this new methodology by holding parent meetings in December 2025. The parents mentioned that these modules have been designed attractively so that even a child who is reluctant to learn can study with great enthusiasm, and that this will also lighten the weight of children's school bags.
The protesters' view is that it is unacceptable to reverse the entire educational reform process based on an issue like an error on page 51 of the English subject module. Even teachers working in difficult areas have pointed out that this new system will help prevent children from dropping out of the school system due to failing subjects like mathematics. They emphasize that if there are any shortcomings, they should be corrected and this program should be started from 2026, and that children's lives should not be played with based on the intentions of a few individuals.
The Parents' Union requests that the future of over two hundred thousand children expected to enter Grade Six in this country not be darkened, and that the books already handed out not be taken back. The parents strongly urge the President and the Minister of Education to provide this new education system, which allows children to think, instead of a system that merely produces 'parrot-learners'.
