It is reported that the Ministry of Sports has decided to suspend the awarding of trophies for the Ford Laser/Mazda 1300cc event of the S.L.A.D.A. (SLADA) Motor Car Championship, which is scheduled to be held this afternoon (16) in Boralesgamuwa.

A protest lodged by a player who was found guilty of violating competition rules has caused this.

Players point out that an official from the Ministry of Sports informed the organizers to suspend this trophy awarding ceremony without any investigation. They also emphasize that this sudden decision is a serious blow to motor racing in Sri Lanka.

Due to this situation, players say that hundreds of thousands of rupees spent on the relevant event and the trophy awarding ceremony are at serious risk. They further state that authorities should conduct a proper investigation into the veracity of the complaint before making such decisions.

The incident that led to this protest occurred during the SLADA RACING tournament held on November 23rd. Another player lodged a complaint after suspicions arose regarding the relevant player's car. Players state that after an investigation conducted by the organizers, a spare part inconsistent with the competition rules and regulations was identified in the car, and points were deducted from his final race.

Players point out that he was in first place in the final race before the points deduction, and after 10 points were deducted, he had to settle for second place. They further explain that due to this situation, the relevant player has filed this protest.
