Several pieces of information have been revealed during investigations into the release of 'phone sex' video clips on social media, involving a student who was the head prefect of Nalanda College, Colombo, with three female teachers from the college and a friend's mother. This student sat for the Advanced Level examination in 2024 and was a member of the senior prefects' board at that time.

Normally, at Nalanda College, the group that has completed the Ordinary Level examination is first recruited as assistant prefects, and a portion of them are recruited to the senior group in the year they sit for the Advanced Level. After the Advanced Level examination, during the free period awaiting results, several key positions, including the head prefect, are selected from the senior group. The tradition is that the prefects holding these key positions, including the head prefect, work full-time in their roles without being involved in the school's academic activities. According to social media messages, this student's friends congratulated him on receiving the head prefect position on February 15, 2025.

During the student's leaked video recordings, several notification messages appearing on his mobile phone were also recorded. According to the messages displayed at the end of a video call from a number he identified as 'BuddhXni Madam,' a news item about the appointment of new government deputy ministers on November 21, 2024, is noted there. Accordingly, it can be assumed that the recording took place on that day.

The Advanced Level examination for 2024 began on November 25, and it is assumed that by then, schools had been given holidays, and he was studying, and the teacher was at home. However, it is clear that at this time, the student in question was only a senior prefect and had not received the head prefect position. A national newspaper today reported that 'the incident being circulated on social media occurred two years ago.' However, the recording took place only about one year and two months ago.

The dates of the other video recordings are not clear. Newspaper reports state that 'the two teachers involved have already been transferred from the school,' with one teacher transferred about six months ago and the other about a month ago. Confirmed sources from Nalanda College published in the newspaper indicate that one of the other two individuals involved in the incident is a mother of a student at the school, and the other is someone who came to the school for temporary training from a private higher education institution. Accordingly, it has been implied that only two permanent teachers from the college are involved in this incident, and both of them are no longer at the school.

The head prefect involved in this incident sat for the Advanced Level examination in 2024 and was appointed as head prefect for a period of one year after the examination. How the incident came to the school's attention is not clear, nor is it clear whether it was secretly investigated and only the teachers were punished.

Since the Ministry of Education is only now commencing an investigation into this matter, it is clear that there has been no ministry-level intervention regarding the issue before this.

A special aspect of this incident is that the video footage related to the incident was revealed on January 11th. On the same day, the school administration conducted an investigation into the incident and removed the student from the position of head prefect on the 16th.

It has been reported that a report related to the incident was later submitted to the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. However, the transfer of teachers six months ago and the removal of the head prefect last week are contradictory matters. This is because appropriate action should have been taken against both parties involved in the videos.

According to information published on a YouTube channel, this student is a member of a wealthy family, and his family background also influenced him receiving recognition, including the head prefect position. Additionally, it is said that the 'PR' he maintained with school teachers also provided an impetus for him to obtain the head prefect position.

The newspaper report indicates that this student was registered for a course at a private higher education institution and that he was removed from that institution following the publicity of the incident. ‍

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya attended a school event as the chief guest last Friday (23rd), and the publicity related to the incident began on social media on that same day.

Some have also argued that this incident was highlighted due to political reasons, as there was no publicity on social media from the day the video footage was revealed until then.

However, amidst these contradictions, discussions are also emerging about the deterioration of student-teacher relationships in the present era and the influence of teledrama artistic creations on this.
