Latest reports indicate that in addition to the IRIS Dena armed warship, which was attacked and destroyed near Galle, Sri Lanka today, several other Iranian vessels belonging to the Iranian Navy have suffered massive damage in recent days due to 'Operation Epic Fury' launched under the leadership of the United States. This operation was carried out with the aim of reducing Iran's naval power and threats in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf region.

US President Trump has stated that between 9 and 10 Iranian ships have been completely destroyed. However, according to some defense reports and the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), approximately 17 Iranian vessels, including a submarine, have been sunk or disabled by these attacks. Tomahawk-like missiles and air strikes specifically targeted numerous ships anchored at the main naval bases of Bandar Abbas and Chabahar.

Satellite images have already confirmed that the modern 'Moudge'-class warship, IRIS Sahand, which was anchored in Bandar Abbas port, has been sunk during this series of attacks. This vessel, commissioned in 2018, had previously been involved in an accident and sunk in July 2024, then repaired and recommissioned in November 2025. Additionally, reports indicate that the older vessel, IRIS Sabalan, which survived a US operation in 1988, was also destroyed while anchored near the Sahand. Analysts point out that IRIS Zagros, Iran's newest intelligence and electronic warfare vessel, commissioned in January 2025, has also been sunk in these attacks.

Among other vessels attacked, the IRIS Kurdistan, commissioned in 2025 for logistics and helicopter operations, sustained severe damage at the Bandar Abbas base, with several locations observed to have been bombed. However, there are no definitive reports of any damage to the IRIS Taftan, which is currently under construction. Additionally, while specific information regarding the Kilo-class submarine, IRIS Noor or Nooh, is not yet clear, the American side confirms that at least one submarine was destroyed during the overall operation targeting naval infrastructure. In addition to these main vessels, the Jamaran vessel at Chabahar, the drone transport vessel Shahid Bagheri, and the Makran vessel used for forward operations have also caught fire or sunk, and the Bandar Abbas naval headquarters has suffered severe infrastructure damage.
