Party sources say that the no-confidence motion that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB)-led opposition was preparing to bring against Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, who serves as both the Minister of Education and the Prime Minister, has now been pushed aside due to a tug-of-war between two factions.

One faction of the opposition emphasizes that the no-confidence motion should be brought forward urgently, while another faction argues that this is not the appropriate time to present it, leading to this controversial situation. In light of this situation, it is reported that the submission of the no-confidence motion to Parliament will be further delayed.

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya decided to present this no-confidence motion based on various allegations related to the education sector, including the module incident. Signatures from several opposition MPs had also been obtained for this. When questioned about this, a leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya stated that a definite date for presenting the no-confidence motion has not yet been set. Meanwhile, Leader of the House, Minister Bimal Rathnayake, recently questioned in Parliament why a no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister, if decided upon, was not being presented.

Emphasizing that presenting a no-confidence motion against a Prime Minister is a serious matter, the Minister also requested that the motion be presented immediately. Meanwhile, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya also made a statement in Parliament last Friday, saying that she had suddenly returned to Parliament from abroad to face that no-confidence motion.
