The latest documentary film centered around Melania Trump, wife of American President Donald Trump, has faced extreme failure in Britain. Tim Richards, CEO of Vue Cinema, a major cinema chain in Britain, stated that there is no audience interest in this film, which was scheduled to begin screening worldwide on January 30.
It is reported that only one ticket was sold for the premiere held at a major cinema in Islington, London, and only two tickets were booked for the 6:00 PM screening on the same day.The situation was even worse in British cities like Blackburn, Castleford, and Hamilton, where despite 28 screenings being planned in these areas, not a single ticket was sold for any of them. The documentary includes how Donald Trump and Melania returned to the White House after the presidential election victory, and the 20 days leading up to the inauguration. A private screening for the President and his associates was also held at the White House on January 24.
Amazon Studios has purchased the rights to this film for $40 million and spent another $35 million on global marketing. The producers expected it to be a huge success and planned to screen it in approximately 1,400-2,000 cinemas in America and over 5,000 screens in 27 countries worldwide. Melania Trump, who unveiled this creation at the New York Stock Exchange, stated that the idea came to her after the 2024 election victory, and that it would give people the opportunity to see the few days before the inauguration from a First Lady's perspective.
This creation showcases her role as a businesswoman, wife, and mother, as well as how she carries the responsibility of bringing the family back to the White House. At one point in the nearly two-hour film, she looks at the camera from the Capitol building and says, "We are back here again." According to a recent survey, although 40% of Americans do not have a clear opinion of her, she is a popular figure among Republicans.
However, this documentary has also generated considerable controversy. According to reports in Rolling Stone magazine, about two-thirds of the production team have requested their names be removed from the film's credits. It is said that the reasons for this include Brett Ratner, who previously faced sexual assault allegations, serving as the director, and the political propaganda nature of the project. There have also been accusations that the crew had to work long hours without breaks during filming, and that the director treated employees harshly.
Historians point out that this film attempts to present Melania's image in a new light. Advocating for child protection, she spearheaded the passage of legislation that made it a crime to upload private photos to the internet without permission. Melania first met Donald Trump in 1998, married him in 2005, and their son Barron Trump was born in 2006. She always tries to keep her private life away from the public eye and is known as a figure who advocates for social issues related to children. The film's trailer is below
