The Consumer Affairs Authority has launched an investigation into a racket that sold electric fans falsely branded with the Japanese brand name KDK. Accordingly, the Authority stated that during a raid conducted in the Piliyandala area, it was not possible to even uncover information about a proper importer or manufacturer for the electric fans found at the relevant business establishment.

Following the filing of a lawsuit regarding this incident and the admission of guilt, the Kesbewa Magistrate's Court has imposed a fine of Rs. 40,000 on the relevant businessman. Furthermore, the court has ordered the confiscation of 20 electric fans presented as case exhibits. The Consumer Affairs Authority emphasized that it is the right of consumers to obtain the product label and lettering, the name and address of the manufacturer or importer, the maximum retail price, a company warranty card, and a proper bill after payment when purchasing a product to protect themselves from such frauds.

The Authority further stated that such raids are continuously carried out island-wide to protect consumers from such misleading activities.
