A foreign national who was bathing in the Mirissa beach area, which belongs to the Kothavila Police Division, was caught in a rip current and was being swept away when he was rescued by a group of officers from the Kothavila Police Lifesaving Unit. This incident was reported on January 11th in the afternoon.
The foreign national was caught in a rip current while bathing in the sea, leading to the accident. Officers on lifesaving duty at the beach immediately sprang into action. Sub-Inspector Mendis, Police Sergeant (59416) Ajantha, Police Constable (96986) Dissanayake, and Police Constable (105268) Kahawatta, all attached to the Kothavila Police Lifesaving Unit, jointly brought the foreign national safely to shore.
The person whose life was saved by the police officers is a 65-year-old English national.
