The medical strike implemented by the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) in all hospitals in the Eastern Province ended today (22) at 2.00 PM.

This strike began due to allegations of administrative and financial irregularities against the Medical Superintendent of Akkaraipattu Base Hospital. The Medical Association demanded that the relevant Medical Superintendent be removed from the post and a new director be appointed.

Accordingly, the Medical Association has agreed to end the strike with the issuance of the letter by the Secretary to the Ministry of Health, immediately removing the accused Medical Superintendent from the said post.

The Government Medical Officers' Association further stated that patient care services in all hospitals in the Eastern Province are currently returning to normal.
