The government has decided to introduce a digital card system incorporating modern technology for obtaining fuel for vehicles owned by government institutions. This new system will facilitate the replenishment of funds through online banking methods commensurate with the fuel requirement, and enable the procurement of fuel with high transparency and efficiency by minimizing human intervention.
Currently, the Bank of Ceylon and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation have jointly introduced this program for supplying fuel to vehicles using digital cards. This step has been taken with the aim of further streamlining the process of obtaining fuel for government vehicles.
Accordingly, this new system is scheduled to be implemented as a pilot project under the first phase to supply fuel for the reserve vehicles of the Presidential Secretariat. Based on the success of this pilot project, it is planned to extend this system to other government institutions in the future. The proposal submitted by His Excellency the President in this regard has received Cabinet approval.
