The ceremony to add the 'WINDSCAPE MANNAR' wind power plant, constructed by CEYLEX Renewables in the Mannar region with a total capacity of 20 megawatts, to the national electricity grid took place this morning (15) under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. This project, implemented with the aim of empowering the country with renewable energy, marks a significant milestone in Sri Lanka's electricity history, as it is the first wind power project in the country completed using high-capacity turbines of 5 megawatts (5 MW) under either the state or private sector.

This power plant, established in the Mannar region by CEYLEX Renewables, operating as a fully local company, has 04 turbines, with each turbine having a capacity of approximately 4.8 megawatts. This turbine system, with a hub height of 110 meters, has been installed to operate as 04 separate projects, with the aim of providing a total capacity of 20 megawatts to the national grid. CEYLEX, which commenced operations in 2019, has successfully completed numerous renewable energy projects covering the three sectors of hydro, solar, and wind, and this project was also carried out under their full supervision, from planning to implementation (Turnkey solutions).

This project operates under the 'Build-Own-Operate' (BOO) model, and the electricity generated is sold at a pre-agreed unit price. A special feature of this power plant, built using the latest technology, is its ability to be fully controlled remotely by a centralized control room without human labor. The company points out that since it bears sole responsibility for the project without relying on subcontractors, unnecessary intermediate costs have been eliminated, allowing them to provide high value to the consumer at competitive prices.

The ceremony held today was very brief, and it was noteworthy that while the President was present, the company owner unveiled a commemorative plaque that only bore the President's designation, not his name.
