A woman suspected of supplying weapons for the murder of a manager of a business establishment in the Ambalangoda area has been arrested in Hikkaduwa. She was arrested as a result of a joint investigation conducted by the Police Special Task Force (STF) and the Galle District Crime Division.
Police investigations have revealed that this murder was orchestrated by an individual named 'Karandeniya Sudda', who is hiding abroad. Mr. Hiran Kosala, who was the manager of a Singer business establishment in Ambalangoda town and a politician of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), was shot dead on the morning of December 22nd last year within the premises of the institution where he worked. Several teams conducted investigations into the incident, and the Police Special Task Force recently arrested two individuals from the Kiribathgoda area.
Interrogations of these suspects revealed that these two individuals provided transportation facilities for the shooters to escape and coordinated them. Information has also been received that they carried out these activities under the direction of 'Karandeniya Sudda', who is hiding abroad. Based on this information, the Police Special Task Force and the Galle District Crime Division jointly conducted investigations and arrested three more individuals.
During the interrogation of the three arrested individuals, investigating officers were able to locate a motorcycle used for reconnaissance. Furthermore, information about a woman who supplied firearms for this crime was also revealed. Accordingly, after the arrest of the woman residing in Hikkaduwa, further investigations led to the discovery of a pistol and a revolver suspected to have been used in the murder in her possession. Investigations have also revealed that this woman maintained direct contact with the individual named 'Karandeniya Sudda'.
Further investigations related to this incident are being conducted under the direct supervision of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Kithsiri Jayalath, who is in charge of the Southern Province, and under the direction of Assistant Superintendent of Police Namal Perera, Director of the Galle District Crime Division.
