The government has given special attention to importing potatoes, onions, and lentils through the intervention of the State Trading (General) Corporation and the Cooperative Wholesale Establishment.
This matter was revealed at the Food Security Committee meeting held yesterday (10) under the chairmanship of the Ministers of Trade and Agriculture.
The primary objective is to control the artificial price hikes of these goods by some traders, who are exploiting the damage caused to farmlands due to the prevailing disaster situation.
Accordingly, it was further discussed at the committee meeting to sell these imported stocks of potatoes, onions, and lentils to consumers through the Lanka Sathosa and cooperative retail outlet networks.
