Horana Woman and Piliyandala Man Remanded for Defrauding 10, 12, and 17 Lakhs Each in Foreign Job Scam

 Horana Chief Magistrate Chandana Kalansooriya on the 3rd ordered the remand of a woman who defrauded over twenty-five million rupees from individuals in various parts of the island by promising foreign jobs, and a businessman who aided her, until December 17th.



The individuals remanded are 47-year-old Morawakage Pushparani Dinesha, a resident of Graceland, Horana, and 52-year-old Chamara Ravindu, a resident of Dampe, Piliyandala. The Magistrate further ordered the suspension of bank accounts maintained by the suspect woman and their examination.

It was revealed in court that these individuals had obtained various sums of money, such as 10, 12, and 17 lakhs of rupees, from people by showing them the dream of foreign employment.


Currently, complaints against them have been received by the Minor Complaints Division, Criminal Division, and Horana Special Criminal Investigation Unit of the Horana Police Headquarters, as well as by the Maharagama, Kottawa, and Matara police stations, the Criminal Investigation Department, and the Colombo Women's Bureau, with further complaints continuing to be lodged.

It has also been revealed that there are ongoing court cases against the suspect woman regarding an incident where she previously impersonated a Balapitiya High Court judge and requested judges' phone numbers from a registrar at the Attanagalla Court. Furthermore, she has fraudulently created and used an official seal and signature of a lawyer for her scams,


and it is reported that the said lawyer has also lodged a complaint against the suspect woman with the Horana Special Criminal Investigation Unit.

Lawyers appeared on behalf of the suspect woman, who is said to have previously received three suspended prison sentences of two years each, and on behalf of the other suspect. Police officers representing the Horana Police Headquarters and the Special Criminal Investigation Unit reported the facts of the incident to the court.
