Dialog Axiata PLC announced last Friday that it has entered into a new partnership agreement with SpaceX. Through this agreement, Dialog will gain the right to resell Starlink satellite internet services to the business community and residents in underserved areas of Sri Lanka.
The company states that this new service will significantly strengthen Dialog's existing terrestrial network coverage. It will particularly help provide continuous and high-speed internet connectivity to areas with minimal communication facilities. This is expected to boost productivity, accelerate innovation, and foster economic growth in those regions.
Commenting on the partnership, Supun Weerasinghe, Director and Group Chief Executive of Dialog Axiata, stated that joining forces with Starlink will give new impetus to Dialog's mission of bridging the digital divide. He emphasized that this will further strengthen their efforts to empower businesses, institutions, and communities across Sri Lanka.
Starlink services will soon be available to business customers through Dialog's Corporate Solutions division. Dialog plans to offer customers a full-service package, including Starlink equipment installation, service provision, and maintenance.
The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) issued an official license to Starlink in August 2024 to operate telecommunication services within Sri Lanka. Notably, a month prior, in July of this year, Starlink had already commenced its commercial operations in the country. Subsequently, Singer Sri Lanka also registered with Starlink as a distribution agent.
