A barber, who was returning home on his motorcycle after finishing work, was ambushed and fatally attacked with a sharp weapon. This incident has been reported from the Mathugama area. Mathugama Headquarters Police state that the main suspect connected to this brutal crime, which occurred on the night of the 16th, has been identified, and police investigations are underway to apprehend him.
The unfortunate victim of this incident is 41-year-old S. Shashi Kumar, a father of three, residing in the upper section of Chogan Watta, Mathugama. He worked as a barber.
On that night, after completing his work and attending a funeral in the Chogan Watta area, he was returning home on his motorcycle when he was attacked by an assailant lying in wait.
Initial police investigations into the incident have revealed that a long-standing personal dispute between the victim and the suspect was the immediate cause of the murder. The suspect, a resident of the Malabada area, fled the scene after committing the crime. Mr. Shashi Kumar, who sustained serious injuries in the attack, passed away after being admitted to Nagoda Hospital.
Under the instructions and guidance of Mathugama Headquarters Police OIC Mr. Pushpa Jayathilaka, a police team including Crime Division OIC Mr. W.E.D. Udayanga has launched extensive investigations to apprehend the absconding suspect.
