Mount Lavinia Police state that a person who posed as a secret police officer, claimed that young women traveling on the road were suspicious, forcibly took them into his car for inspection, took them to isolated places, abused them, and then fled, has been arrested in the Attidiya area. This suspect was arrested on the 20th of last month, along with his car, by the Mount Lavinia Children and Women's Bureau.
The arrested suspect is a 47-year-old resident of the Mahiyanganaya area, and police investigations have revealed that he committed these abuses while temporarily residing at a lodging on Templars Road, Mount Lavinia.
Following a complaint received in February regarding such an assault, the police launched a lengthy investigation. During this, CCTV camera footage from the relevant roads was examined, and based on intelligence received by Woman Sub-Inspector Rapini Rajapaksha, the OIC of the Mount Lavinia Children and Women's Bureau, this suspect was able to be arrested in the Attidiya area along with his car.
