American President Donald Trump, addressing the nation from the White House on Thursday to mark 11 months in office, declared "tariffs" to be his favorite English word. He emphasized that his tariff policy had prevented eight wars worldwide during the first 10 months of his administration.

He also accused former President Joe Biden of leaving him with numerous crises to resolve upon leaving office. Trump stated that tariffs imposed on countries like Canada, Mexico, Brazil, and India had generated more revenue for the American economy than expected, benefiting the nation.

However, Democratic leaders have strongly criticized these statements. Congressman Chris Van Hollen declared that it was difficult even to count the falsehoods in Trump's speech. California Governor Gavin Newsom commented on social media that the President's speech was dominated by an "I, I, I" tone, indicating a self-centered nature. Trump asserted that the world no longer mocked America and that the country was receiving unprecedented respect. He further added that America was poised for an economic awakening unlike anything the world had ever seen.

Regarding inflation and the cost of living, the President did not provide a direct answer, instead claiming that his specific policies would lower commodity prices and that energy and food prices were under control. However, official statistics paint a starkly different picture. The Guardian reported that food prices increased by 2.7% between April and September 2025, with beef and banana prices rising by 7%. Americans report their average monthly expenses have increased from 9,000 rupees to 66,000 rupees. Data confirms that Trump's tariff policy has increased the annual expenditure of an average American family by 200,000 to 800,000 rupees.

In his speech, Trump launched a strong attack, claiming that undocumented immigrants were stealing American jobs, creating housing crises, and squandering tax money in the health and education sectors. Although he specifically accused the Somali community in Minnesota of exploiting the state economy, reports indicate that immigrants make significant contributions to the American economy through sectors like agriculture and construction, and they pay more in taxes to the country than they receive.

Furthermore, commenting on foreign policy, Trump has stated on more than 60 occasions that he intervened to prevent an India-Pakistan conflict in May. However, India has vehemently rejected this claim, asserting that the ceasefire was reached through direct talks between India and Pakistan without any third-party intervention.
