Two Suspects Remanded for Assaulting Police Officers

Horana Acting Magistrate Tharanga Gee Kiyanage ordered the remand of two suspects until the 23rd, in connection with criminally assaulting police officers and behaving in a manner that disturbed the peace in the Horana area.




The two individuals remanded are residents of the Monaragala area, aged 27 and 28. They had come to work on a newly constructed house in the Gurugoda area of Horana.

According to a complaint received via the police emergency hotline, the suspects and several others were accused of consuming alcohol, singing loudly, and harassing neighbors. It was revealed in court that when police officers arrived at the scene and attempted to arrest them, one officer sustained injuries.




Following the incident, Horana Police dispatched additional officers to the scene. The suspects were arrested on charges of disturbing the peace in the area and criminally assaulting police officers.

During the court hearing, Police Inspector Wickramarathne presented the facts, while Attorney Nuwan Mirihana appeared on behalf of the suspects. Police officers are conducting investigations into the incident under the direction of Minor Complaints Division OIC Parakrama Gunaratne, led by Horana Headquarters Police Inspector Ranga Perera.
