Update: Hanwella - Major Flood Rising, Glencorse, Dunamale Falling, Millakanda Stable

 According to the water levels and rainfall report for the island's main rivers, issued by the Hydrology and Disaster Management Division of the Department of Irrigation at 6:30 PM on November 29, flood conditions have been identified in several river basins. Based on this data, flood risk levels have been exceeded in certain areas within the Kelani River, Kalu River, Attanagalu Oya, and Yan Oya river basins.



Specifically, a Major Flood situation has been reported around the Hanwella water gauge in the Kelani River basin, and it has been observed that the water level continues to rise. A Minor Flood situation is reported from the Nagalagam Street area, where the water level also shows an upward trend. Although a Major Flood situation prevailed in the Glencorse area, the water level is currently observed to be receding, and


the Kitulgala area is currently at an Alert level, with water levels continuing to rise.

Considering the Kalu River basin, its tributary, the Kuda River, has recorded a Major Flood level around the Kalawellawa (Millakanda) water gauge. A Minor Flood situation is reported in the Kalu River from the Ratnapura area, but it is receding, while the Putupawula area remains at an Alert level and is rising. Additionally, a Major Flood situation has been reported from the Dunamale area in the Attanagalu Oya basin, but its water level is reported to be receding.

A Minor Flood situation is reported from the Horowpathana area in the Yan Oya basin, and its water level is also receding. Although the Thalgahagoda area of the Nilwala River is at an Alert level, it shows a receding trend in water levels. The Department of Irrigation report further states that water levels in other major river basins, including the Mahaweli River, Walawe River, Kirindi Oya, Menik Ganga, Kumbukkan Oya, Maduru Oya, and Deduru Oya, are currently at normal levels.
