During the 24-hour period ending at 08:30 AM on November 27, 2025, very heavy rainfall was experienced in many parts of the island. The highest rainfall recorded during this period was a significant 226.1 mm in the Polonnaruwa District, with Badulla reporting 197.4 mm and Vavuniya recording 184.3 mm.
Additionally, Nuwara Eliya town recorded 179.5 mm of rainfall and a minimum temperature of 15.2 degrees Celsius, while Monaragala and Batticaloa areas received heavy rains of 174.0 mm and 169.2 mm respectively.The weather report also indicates that significant rainfall was received in the catchment areas of hydroelectric power plants during this period. Notably, a very high rainfall of 267.0 mm was recorded around the Rantambe Reservoir, with Bowatenna receiving 230.4 mm. Victoria and Randenigala reservoir areas both received an equal rainfall of 200.0 mm, while Inginiyagala and Ukuwela areas also recorded significant rainfall of 163.5 mm and 145.0 mm respectively. Areas like Castlereagh and Maussakelle received less than 100 mm of rainfall.
Examining data from additional rainfall stations, heavy rains of 266.0 mm were recorded in Hettipola and 262.0 mm in Mahadowa. Kandaketiya and Habarana Lodge areas also registered over 250 mm of rainfall, while areas such as Ulhitiya, Yakawewa, and Madukele received heavy rains exceeding 200 mm. Regarding the island's temperature, coastal areas like Galle and Jaffna experienced maximum temperatures of approximately 29 degrees Celsius, whereas cooler temperatures were recorded in hilly regions such as Nuwara Eliya and Bandarawela.
