6.6 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Indian Ocean Amidst Heavy Rains

The Department of Meteorology announced that an earthquake of 6.6 magnitude on the Richter scale occurred today (27) around 10:26 AM in the Indian Ocean region, near North Sumatra, Indonesia. According to data reports released by the National Tsunami Early Warning Centre, this earthquake occurred at a depth of 25 kilometers from the Earth's surface, at a location of 2.68 degrees North latitude and 96.07 degrees East longitude.

Considering this seismic activity, the National Tsunami Early Warning Centre of the Department of Meteorology issued advisory number 01 today at 10:43 AM, informing the public living in coastal and surrounding areas around the island to remain vigilant. As this is an initial information advisory issued under the 'White' category, relevant authorities request the public to pay continuous attention to future announcements issued regarding this matter.
