The Hunt for the Accomplice: Police Closing in on Woman Linked to Murder

In a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the brutal murder of notorious underworld figure, Ganemulla Sanjeewa, the police have gained valuable information following the interrogation of a key suspect. This crucial intelligence has led them to a potential lead on the whereabouts of the woman believed to have assisted the murder suspect. It is now confirmed that a number of police teams are on the chase, investigating possible clues that could bring the accomplice to justice soon. Airport authorities have been informed, and security at several strategic points are on high alert.

The key suspect in the murder, Samindu Dilshan, also known as 'Commando Samindu', has reportedly provided police with tips leading to a woman connected to the crime. The woman, identified as Ishara Sevandi, is believed to have had ties with a prominent drug network, which was also linked to Samindu. Following the murder, it is believed she traveled from the site of the shooting at the Colombo Magistrate’s Court to Nagamo before eventually returning to Colombo.

Police investigations have revealed a long-standing relationship between the former commando-turned-suspect Samindu and a woman who was disguised as a lawyer at the scene of the crime. They are said to have shared a deep connection for years. Reports suggest that Samindu, who once served in the third Commando Regiment of the Sri Lankan Army, had become involved in drugs around two years ago and was linked to a criminal gang operating under the guise of legitimate business activities.

The woman, who is currently evading capture, was reportedly staying with Samindu at a residence in the Minuwangoda area prior to the murder. Investigations have shown that they had visited the Colombo Magistrate's Court on several occasions in the lead-up to the crime. The murder was carried out with a gun that was later traced back to the woman. Police have since discovered photographs of the weapons, including a revolver and a second pistol, on her mobile phone.

In a shocking twist, police have also uncovered that the female suspect had been in contact with a police constable who was part of the crime scene, and photos of the firearms were exchanged in the days leading up to the murder. The police constable, who claimed to have no knowledge of the murder, has now become a prime suspect in the investigation.

The murder took place on February 19th, when the suspect entered the courtroom disguised as a lawyer with a gun hidden in a legal book. Following the murder, the suspect fled the scene, leaving behind the weapon used in the crime. Investigations have pointed to the possibility that the constable was involved in assisting the suspects to flee the area after the incident.

As the hunt for Ishara Sevandi continues, the Colombo Criminal Division, under the direction of Senior Deputy Inspector General Sanjeewa Dharmarathna, has intensified the search efforts. Multiple police teams have been deployed to apprehend her, with authorities focusing on the Katubella area of Meegamuwa, where she is believed to be hiding. The airport and several exit points have been placed on high alert, and authorities are optimistic that an arrest will be made soon.
