It is reported that about 50 health staff members of the Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital have been infected with the Kovid 19 virus. It is learned that two floors of the five-storied building constructed inside the hospital have already been set aside by the health staff to treat the infected. It is reported that 12 health workers, including nurses and 23 health workers, are receiving treatment at the scene. In addition, it is said that about 20 others are receiving treatment in their own homes. All of them had received both doses of the Covid 19 vaccine.

Meanwhile, a photo spread on social media this morning showed patients sleeping in the corridors of the Jayewardenepura Hospital. The number of Kovid patients admitted to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital in Colombo South has doubled. The deputy director of the hospital, Dr Rukshan Bellana told a radio channel this morning. He said plans were afoot to refer patients to other treatment centres to reduce the inconvenience caused by overcrowding. It was reported in the morning that 93 doctors, nurses and junior staff members of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle were in a critical condition due to Covid infection. A state of emergency has been declared at the Karapitiya Hospital. Patients who do not show severe symptoms are sent home at their own discretion as the hospital's capacity is exceeded.
