Thieves break into a door and enter Horagolla Walawwa

Thursday, January 21, 2021, The Nittambuwa Police stated that an investigation had been launched into an incident where a group had allegedly broken into a door of the Horagolla Bandaranaike Palace in the early hours of yesterday (20). A Nittambuwa police official said that the group was investigating whether anything in the palace had been stolen. Officers from the Nittambuwa Police Headquarters have deployed an official dog to search for the suspects. Officers from the Gampaha Crime Records Division had also arrived at the scene to inspect the crime scene and found several fingerprints near one of the windows in the Walawe. It is said that this place of historical value is rich in valuable items such as ivory and the fact that no security camera system has been installed in it has hampered the investigation, police said. It has been revealed that the group had broken the glass bearing glass which connects to a large hall located on the ground floor of the Horagolla Walawe and entered the Walawwa after opening the door lock. Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga was not at the palace at the time of the incident and two retired officers of the Presidential Police Division 4 were guarding the palace with weapons. After hearing about the incident, Chandrika Kumaratunga had arrived in Horagolla last evening (20), police said.
